Gurl, I don't read about money. I just want to make some more.

Here are my answers, tho.

1. I am estranged from my money.
2. Go to private ungrad and private grad school with student loans.
3. Too broke to save...you are probably right!

I'm not a reader, but I just may attempt to read this book!

1. I have a better relationship with money. I've learned to manage it better. I'm very strict about finding bargains and shopping clearance.
2. The worse thing I've done was to accept credit card offers the summer I went off to college. I kind of had no choice, money was funny and I needed stuff for college. The next year, money wasn't even an issue anymore and I regret even getting those credit cards. I just wish could have seen the future!
3. Utilize bargains and coupons, try to cut down on things that you don't necessarily need. The money that you save, try to investing some of it.

1. My personal relationship with money is, I never have enough, and when I do, I never spend it the way I should.
2. The worst money decision I ever made is when I talked my husband into refinancing our mortgage with a company we weren't familiar with. They promised us they would pay off all of our credit cards with the refi, except they didn't, so we ended up with a bigger mortgage we could barely afford, and we still had credit card debt. We ended up having to file Bankruptcy to get out from under the debt.
3. I have no advice for savers, because I cannot save even a dollar . The best I can do is put change in a jar and then when the jar is full cash it in for the 20 or 30 dollars.

Anonymous said...

1. Money and I are currently estranged.
2. Start kitchen remodel on the same day I was laid off from work (and 6 months pregnant). It was fiscally irresponsible but I would probably do it again.
3. I tend to try to cut back on the little things... like make coffee at home or eat in one more lunch or dinner a week. The more obvious and helpful answer is to "pay your savings account" first. You can't spend what you don't remember you have.

Anonymous said...

Right now money and I are not on speaking terms although I am trying to rectify the situation quickly.

One of the worst money mistakes I made was not focusing on a job that I would have liked because I went after one that (supposedly) would pay me more.... but I hated it and had to leave (and then spiraled into broke city).

I am doing everything I can think of (that is legal and moral) to save what little I have. If you think you are too broke to save the first thing you have to do is get out of that mindset. I was sending $1 a month to my ING savings account. That is still saving! No matter how small it is you can still do it. That $1 was made up of pennies I picked up off the ground and the occasional quarter I found on the bus. It grew over a few months to me being able to send $3-$5 a month to savings and I was proud. You do not have to send a large amount into savings....just as long as you keep doing something.

Hmm...I'm not sure how I feel about you discriminating against non-US residents! Hmph!!
J/K...as I'm not eligible I thought I'd answer anyways...
1: It's a bitter relationship! We're always arguing and fighting-and in the end Money storms off....and doesn't return until payday....and then we're at it again!
2: Erm...prolly getting those stupid credit cards...best thing-I'mma get back to you on that one
3: I am too broke-but then i guess a £5 here on there adds about in the end....(she says)

Lord knows I could use some advice about money. May I also reccommend "Girl get your money straight" by Glinda Bridgforth. I've used a few of her strategies so far.
1) I dont have a personal relationship with money. My money has a personal relationship with Discover, Visa, DSW shoe, and Nissian.
2)Best decision I've made with money was to chop up my credit card my 2nd year of college and pay it off by my third year. (of course I got a new credit card after graduation - - with no job. DUMB)
3)My best advice is save all your change. If something cost 4.01, Pay $5, and put that 99cents in a coin jar. About twice a year or during that emergency situation, cash in those coins. You will definitely gain big rewards. My last coin cash out was $70 which paid for my phone bill!

Hey Tanyetta *wavin*

I'm appalled at how many of you don't read. Are you serious?

Anyway, you know me and my money are tight like that, so I'm not commenting to enter the contest. I just wanted to stop by and say CONGRATS on the FIVE HUNNID!

1. My personal relationship with money, I always wish I had more.
2. Best decision I've made, paying off college loans.
3. Advice to someone who feels they are too broke to save, don't waste your money on fast food, cappuccinno's etc. You can really save money that way.

Congrats on your 500th post.
I find it way too depressing to read about $$ :D

1. My personal relationship with money - I don't get overly concerned with money. In other words, it doesn't run my life. There are times when I have less than I'd like, but I still try to have fun and allow myself to indulge a little, while still being responsible.

2.My best decision about money was to start an IRA when I was 19.

3. My advice to someone who feels they are too broke to save - start a change jar. Even if you only save up $100 over a period of a few months, it's money that could go towards a bill or another important expenditure!

I also linked up to this contest, Tanyetta - http://pinksandbluesgirls.wordpress.com/2007/07/09/lots-of-fun-stuff-to-report/

1. I'm leaning on the fact that God says He will open up the windows of heaven to me -- cause my debt surely needs it!

2. Best money decision: "bring ye all the meat into the storehouse" -- Worst? Dropping 10 grand to self-publish and naughty book...

3. Just keep giving, just keep giving. God makes all the crooked paths straight...

Great idea!

1. I can be excessive, but know my limitations with spending. My financial advisor keeps me in line even when I fight him about something.

2. The worst decision I ever made like most people was have a wallet full of credit cards in college. Thank goodness that was eons ago.

3. Best advise is to have money taken out automatically each pay peiod for investing & savings.

Congrats on the 500th post! That's fantastic! I love reading your site. Keep up the fantastic work! :)

So you're bribing us now, huh? Love it! Now I have to come up with some cool answers.

1. I'm actually pretty good at handling money (must be my accountant skills) but it gets tricky when we don't have much.

2. Best decision is keeping separate accounts with my husband who is HORRIBLE with money.

3. Best advice is to have a budget and then write down everything (EVERYTHING!) you spend in a month to see where you can cut.

I'd say I miss you too, but I read you everyday! :P

1.Personal relationship w/ money
I think I manage my money pretty well. I send 5% to my 401K (which receives 100% company match) and I send 5% to my savings. I would say I'm obsessive about managing my money and preparing for retirement, even though that's a good 30 years down the road lol!

2.Best or worst money decision
Worst was having multiple credit cards before my 21st birthday - At one point I had as much as 15 different cards, totalling about $20K of debt. The best decision was cutting them up and working my ass off (sometimes working 2 to 3 different jobs) to pay them all off.

3. Advice to someone too broke to save Get a huge jar (one of those 5 gallon water jars) and empty your change in it every day. You'd be surprised at how much you can save after a few months. Open an ING online bank account, it has one of the highest interest rates out there and it's not as easy to just withdraw your money on a whim.

I have to say that I think this is a great contest (CONGRATS ON YOUR 500TH POST!!) and I'm hoping you don't pick me as a winner. I think the book should go to someone who could really use the help more.

Miss Snarky Pants said...

I too would have to pass on aiming to win the book. I actually love to read but I can admit that reading about money is not an interest of mines so I wouldn't wanna take away from someone who could actually benefit from having it.

Course, I had to come through and show a sista some luv.

Congrats on the 500th post. :-)

1. I am afraid of money...afraid I will spend too much.

2. My best decision with money was when I saved up $500 and took my husband on a surprise weekend getaway.
My worst decision was when I spent $200 on something really stupid, and ended up returning it.

3. Open a savings account and put in whatever you can each week. Another good idea is to have a money jar in your cupboard. Just add a dollar here and there, and before you know it, you will have a lot saved up! (make sure you put it behind alot of stuff in your cupboard so that you can reach in easily to take out cash.)

I found your blog from Alissa, and thought I'd stop by. :)

Congratulations on your 500th post!

Now My answers:

My relationship with money is pay my rent, keep gas in my car...and pray for some extra money for anything else! I try and keep an eye on my debt...but an eye is not worth nearly as much as money on my debt!

Dumbest money decisions--gettina a lump sum of 50 grand a few years back...purchasing a car...and then having nothing else to show for it! cept for a dumb smile when I think of my dang gone DEBT!

I'm not one to be giving advice...but my goal is to pay MYSELF first...but there just doesnt ever seem to be enough for that...cuz I cant pay me before rent, gas, or diapers! sigh

500 posts! Amazing!

ok I was so thrilled when you e-mailed me cuz I had lost your blog...puter problems.
But now I've found you again!
yeah!

So to answer a few questions

1. I keep money at arms length knowing that to trust in it is sheer craziness. But, to say I can live without it is sheer silliness.

2. The worse thing I've ever done with money is get in over my head with charge cards.....the best thing I've ever done is to pay all of them off. (not re-opening any more)

3. If you are too broke to save just think of setting aside a very small amount of money each week or every other week. Small amount can be $2.50 or $25.00? IT WILL ADD UP!

I am a spender but my husband is a saver and he's teaching me. I'm a slow learner!

The worst thing we do is put our money in the bank instead of investing it. I guess that's better than nothing.

Don't buy stuff today that you won't even care about tomorrow. Don't buy it if you can't pay cash. We use credit cards that are automatically paid off every month so we don't have any debt except for our home mortgage.

Oh and my organized side says that being organized will save you lots of money. If you don't have a place to put it, don't buy it!

Hi Tanyetta,

Sorry for the absense, I've had technical difficulties, and for some reason the server wouldn't let me respond. I kept getting a security message pop-up.

Now the fun stuff - I absolutely love the pictures at the beach. What fun to be able to hop in the car and go to the beach when you want. We drive 16-17 hrs. to get there every year. We love it that much.

Congratulations on the 500th post!

Me and money have always had a contemptous relationship. No matter how much of it I get, it continually tries to burn a whole in my pocket. At night, I hear dollar bills screaming to get out of my wallet.

Worst decision I ever made - purchase of 1976 mustang that looked good. One month later the engine through a rod, after that the exhaust system fell off.

Best advice - pay yourself every month. Treat your savings account as if it's a bill. Pay yourself first, don't settle for the left overs.

Just commenting - not entering the contest : )

WOOHOO!!! Congrats on your 500th post!

Contest:
1. My mantra is to save something every week. I put it away in an account that I have limited access to and when I get enough I convert it to a CD or buy a savings bond in one of the boys' names. I am usually very thrifty household things but will splurge on personal items and am an impulsive shopper. I also subscribe to Retail Therapy. LOL I think I'm pretty balanced although my husband will probably say differently. teehee
2. The best decision I made about money was buying a larger house and using it as rental property. The income on it almost pays for both mortgages. The second best was allowing my husband to manage our finances.
3. My advice is to open a ING or Emigrant Direct account and start with $5.00. Make sure to put something in there every week. That way you can't just go to the bank and get your money and don't carry the ATM card with you. OR get a savings account with no minimum balance limit at a branch far away from your house or job and don't get a debit or ATM card for that account. Again, deposit SOMETHING every week. I don't care if it is $0.50. Pretty soon you'll have a nice chunk of change. I also would recommend change jars for your spare change at the end of each day. I have one for quarters and one for other change. I use the huge pickle jars.

1. Money and I have a mutual attraction. ;)

2. Selling stocks only a week before it dropped $13 a share.

3. Budget yourself, and only pay cash. You also need to cut back all your expenses to the bare minimum too. Basic cable, pay as you go cell phone etc... On payday, your money will go to 3 places. Your checking account, savings account, and cash placed in envelopes.

Place cash in envelopes for every single expense. This deos not include expenses paid by check in the mail every month. Newspaper boy money, grocery money, dining out money, you name it, it goes into it's own envelope. This includes your fun money too. (Each family member should get an envelope with a set ammount.)

Also make sure that you have an untouchable cusion in your checking account. Then deposit exactly what you need to pay your bills every month. (Direct deposit is best.)

And most important, have a predetermined amount go into your savings from your paycheck. (Direct deposit is best.)

Finally, utilize your employers retirement plan. I know a woman that was taken into the benefits office when she retird, They told her that she had over a million dollars! Yup, she did not know!
