Hi Everyone,
When I decided to start this blog it was mainly to keep in touch with
friends and family and to mostly provide the DJ updates. I remember the
first time I missed a day from sending out the updates, my inbox was
flooded with emails: Where's the DJ update? I need my fix! I look forward to
seeing them.
Well......I'm considering ending the DJ updates because this blog has now
become something that I never wanted it to become. It has become the topic
of the most unbelievable, unimaginable topic you could ever think of.
I have to be honest, I'm still baffled why it's such an issue with some
people. I even asked what's the deal? The response was...boys aren't supposed to have long hair! My response is...why was he born with all this hair if he wasn't supposed to have it!
I always THOUGHT that people enjoyed the updates and never focused so much
on my son's hair until recent revelations has made it so painfully true. I
never knew my son's hair was such an issue for some people. When I say some people (it's obvious that it's family members)I always thought I was a person who was well aware of my surroundings and that I took pride in surrounding myself with supportive people who genuinely cared for me and my family.
With that said, let me be the first to thank you one and all for the love
you've shown throughout this entire experience. My only goal for the DJ
updates were to keep everyone in the loop and for you to come along on this
journey with us. Mommyhood after all these years has been so amazing and I
wanted to feel comfortable sharing it with everyone.
I'm unable to do this without feeling self-conscious on whether or not MY
SON'S HAIR will be an issue for some. For those of you who've always been
supportive and NEVER judged me or my son's hair, thank you. I've received
tons of emails and comments from people that say basically WHO THE HELL
CARES WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOUR SON!!!! IT'S YOUR SON, DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!!!!!
Well, it would be easy to say that I don't care but since I'm an Aquarius and it's in my make-up of who I am as a person to care, then....yes you guessed it. It has affected me. A.great.deal.A.great.deal. The classic response on email that I've received was: YOU'RE TOO DAMN SENSITIVE, GET OVER IT AND JUST THAT BOYS HAIR ALREADY!
OUCH IS RIGHT.
ummmm....hello!!!!!
MY SON IS 19 MONTHS OLD. HE'S NOT GOING ON A JOB INTERVIEW, SCHOOL OR ANYTHING LIKE THIS. HE GOES TO PLAYGROUPS, EATS CHEERIOS OFF THE FLOOR, MEETS HIS FRIENDS AT THE DUCK POND AND FOR ICE CREAM CONES, AND THE PARK!!! IS THERE A DRESS CODE FOR THESE PLACES????????????????????
I think the bottom line for me was when I MAILED *by postal service* an
Easter Card which I thought would be a special moment in my family's life and the comments I received were so hurtful AND mainly uncalled for.
Instead of receiving comments like, thank you for the photo, DJ is adorable. Thank you for thinking of us by sending the photo, etc....
I received comments (from family) like: "WHEN YOU GONE CUT THAT BOY'S HAIR!!!!" SO AND SO SAID..YOU NEED TO CUT THAT BOY'S HAIR. Urrrrrrghhhhh! my heart is breaking just reliving all of this again.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S TRUE. and it wasn't from just ONE person. How sad
is that?
It really means alot that there were some of you who looked forward to the
updates, looked forward to seeing what new things DJ has learned and discovered, what new friends he has made, what new words he has said, and the fact that you
cared less if my son was bald, had braids, afro puffs, or whatever really meant a
great deal.
For those of you who will terribly miss the updates, here's a flower from DJ
to you. Enjoy.
I received an email from a friend that said she's going to start a blog for me that says:
Vote for DJ's Hair!!! Hmmmmm....Now there's a thought! How cute. :)

You must do what you must do. I will just say if you turn tail, the idiots win.
Whatever you decide, I want us to remain online friends.
And I will never tell you you're doing something wrong unless you publish something involving whips and chains.
Love,
Ann
I think his hair is beautiful when it's rowed and more so when it's all combed out and foofy! He's a gorgeous, sweet, loved little boy and the length of his hair is so unrelated to who he is. I guarantee when he's older and he looks at his baby photos, he'll thank you for making sure he looked hip and cool.
It is hard to say, "When you feed him, clothe him, bathe him, tuck him in, read him stories, etc. then you can make his grooming decisions" even when it's what's in your head. Just so you know at those times when thoughtless people comment on his hair being "too long," there are more than enough people in this world who believe it is a reflection of the beautiful person you're raising him to be.
PS: Make a new private blog and just e-mail us w/ your new URL ;)
awwwww I totally understand your sensitivity I totally would feel the same way if people were making comments like that!!!
I always though DJ look cute, cuter the cutest no matter what his hair was doing that day, how he was dressed or if he ate cheerios off the floor~!
I have enjoyed every minute reading your blog and leaving comments. You and DJ will be missed!
ps I like eden's idea!!!
I came to visit, from Eden's blog. I read her blog a lot. Hehehe...I was shocked to read her take on your son's hair issue.
My opinion...people need to butt out. It's none of their business. I think his hair is individual and it looks totally cute on him. He's happy, healthy and cute. Leave the hair as it is. But this is just me...a newbie to your blog. I have said this before...there are so many people who have nothing better to do than harass a blogger. They need to get a life.
Oh, can I add you to my blogroll? I just thought I would ask. Take care and don't let the busy-bodies win!
oh man. he's gorgeous! whether he's rockin the fro or the rows.
i wonder why it is that some people feel the need to share every &%$#! opnion they have anyway.
i just came here from eden's blog. you have a lovely family, and don't let any of this uncalled for criticism get to you.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! DJ has fabulous hair and it makes me very sad to think that you might not blog anymore because of wanky wankers who feel the need to tell you what to do with your child. (and you can tell them I said that!LOL!) I know how it feels though as certain members of my family have given me flack about J`s girly hair but the curls are too cute to cut for now!
I agree with Eden`s idea, let me know when you have a new URL! LOL!
YOu have got to be kidding me! I love DJ's hair. That may sound hypocrytical because I cut Gav's hair but that was just because of my lack of skill and patience. I love hearing about DJ and your blog. It really cracks me up how people really think they are entitled to an opinion about your child...I had the same problem. But like I said I cut Gav's hair for my own reasons.
I say if you enjoy blogging and meeting people etc. Start a new blog, and dont give the address to the Hair Haters.
I regret cutting Nicky's hair when I did. I really do. And I only did it because everyone kept telling me I should.
Do what you want. And tell everyone else to shut up.
:)
all i can say is some people's opinion made the new American Idol and geez he ain't that great. So opinion, shumupinion. he's very cute, i absolutely love the hair. i hope you don't cut it. he looks like a boy, even with long hair i wouldn't mistake him ever for a girl.
I can't believe someone would make such a big deal over hair. That is just nuts. DJ is adorable. His hair is awesome and it gives him such character. If it were me and people were poking fun at something on Gavi I would tell them to shut the hell up and mind there own business. I really hope you don't shut down your DJ updates because of this. Cause I love to read about him!
I'm glad that you're still continuing the blog. Tell the "haters" to talk a walk!
Hey I just came over from roc rebel granny:) and I love the pics you put in of your son he is adorable... don't let anyone bully you!!! do what you are comfortable with.
W H A T E V E R R R R R!!!!
leave that boys hair on his head until HE says "Mom/Mama/Tanyetta/hey Lady, I want a hair cut!!"
until then F**K what people say about your beautiful BRILLIANT baby boy!
