He's a climber!!!

My son is GROWING up and he's not a baby anymore! As true as it is, I'm so afraid and excited all at the same time.

This brings me to this email I received today from BabyCenter:

Your 21-month-old's physical development: Climbing and balancing

GEE THANKS BABY CENTER!!!! Now if I only would have received this email about 5 months ago! I could have been more prepared. It's a good thing I'm winging motherhood and not referring to those silly development books! Ahhh the joys of motherhood. Love it. Love it. Love it.

So tell me, have you experienced those "HOLD YOUR BREATH" kind of moments after seeing your child on top of a bookshelf, kitchen cabinet, kitchen table, etc...??

Please tell me I'm not the only one out here that has a climber. I need a hug.

I have 2 daredevils. Not only do they climb (and have since a young age) but they will jump off of anything, no matter how high. They'll balance along edges of decks, trampolines, fence rails, lakeshores, etc... They will go into or under anything without hesitation.

It's an adventure, that's for sure. And I may be jinxing myself here, but we've gone 5 years so far with no major injuries.

Alexis is most definitely a climber! And a jumper! It's scary as all get out, but it makes her happy...On the other hand it makes me a nervous wreck! LOL :)

Well I don't have a climber, but i do have a little boy who doesn't know what can hurt him (the autism makes him really... I won't say reckless, because that's any toddler, but its... he doesn't get the sensation of falling when he jumps, stuff like that). He doesn't understand that cars can hit him.

The other day he and I had gotten out of the car and we were standing on the sidewalk waiting for Laura to get out of the car too, but there was a car coming so she was staying in the car til it passed (she wa son the street side). So Aaron thought she was going to leave us, so he screams "Laura! Laura! Wait for me!" and rips his hand out of mine and darts between the front of her back and the back of this huge SUV.

All I can say is thank god for my long (fast) legs. because I grabbed him so damn fast I am surprised I didn't leave a bruise on his armpit. He has never been snatched up in the air so hard or so fast before in his little life. That was a moment where my heart was definetely out of my chest...

Hi there. I'm just reading your blog for the first time. My little guys aren't full fledged climbers YET. They only climb like little monkeys on some things (chairs, their stools, and on some of their toys)! Thank God they haven't attempted to climb out of the crib. I don't know what I'll do when that happens.

Those BabyCenter updates are annoying. I don't think those people have kids...some of their advice is ridiculous. My twins were born on 10/26/04...when was your son born? Forgive me, I haven't had a chance to read all of your entries.

My kid is not a daredevil on land, however water the kid is scary. She just goes under, holding her breath, wiggling and attempting to swim. Scares the heck out of me, yet she loves it so, what can you do?

I have a climber too so you are definitely not alone. My hold my breath moment was when he recently climbed onto our windowsill and opened the window.. thank god for the bars on it! (we live on the fourth floor)

What a brilliant photo! My little boy is only 8 months old (today!) but he loves to use his toys to climb onto to get to something else we've put out of his (supposed) reach and there have been some mighty big falls! HHHUUGGSS!

Is that him in the photo? Because if it is, he's gorgeous and I'll two just like him please.

You know my son Caleb never really enjoyed climbing. I mean he goes up steps without craling now... and he can climb up on our sofa... but thats about all the climbing he does... :-)
But Ive heard of some 2 year olds climbing up ontop of entertainment centers! Now that be nerve wrecking hehe.

They grow up sooo fast.
