We have a mouse.
We have a mouse. His name is DJ.
I went to run his bath water, get out his clothes for the day, etc....came back and I couldn't believe my eyes.
People, the candy box was on top of the table in the MIDDLE.
I don't even want to know how he got up there, got the candy down and proceeded to devour every piece. It's as if he waited until the moment I walked out the room to get into mischief. OMG Melted Chocolate on my beige carpet. I just fainted.
I can hear Darrin now, see what happens when you're not watching my son.
I need a hug, age 2 is starting off with a BANG!
Question: Do your toddlers have free run of the house? Are there gates up?

Well, toddler number one didn't have free run of the entire house, and anything sacred went into a gated area. But, by the time number two was a toddler, number one was over three years old and gates were just in the way for all of us. So Nick did have free run of the house. It didn't take long to get everything moved up and out of the way, either! You learn their capabilities fast, and the hard way!
We do not have gates. We live in such a small apartment they would just be annoying!
When Becca was crawling we set out all our CD's and DVD's on a shelf that was easy to reach. For 2 months we said "no touch" a thousand times a day. Now she doesn't even glance at them.
That was our approach to the no touch rule. Mind you we keep anything of value (ie candy) out of sight so it is out of mind and reach!
I agree with Alissa, you learn really fast and usually the hard way how resourceful your toddler really is! hehe!
We just keep the bedroom doors shut or else our toddler opens the drawers and empties the clothes. We also leave the bathroom door shut, for safety reasons.
But no gates.
Okay silly mama, you know he could have gotten the candy out of a locked cabinet if he wanted it! He's way too smart for his own good (or for your carpet)! We have gates and put stuff away that we don't want Gavin to have. Good luck with your two year old!
Well we had gates - no more because Christopher figured it out in about 2 weeks then he broke it.
But I think it worked out better because by me having to either run get him or tell him "No, don't go there" or "No don't touch that" he actually learned not to do it. Alyssa is the same and she's only 1 yr but she knows not to touch something when I say NO.
Sorry to tell you this but it gets worse. These kids are so smart and I've heard the boys tend to climb. Wait until he gets stuff inside your cupboards and in other high "candy hide-away" areas. Just make sure you snap a picture
it is scary how fast they find the candy lol, happy birthday hugs for the sugar high DJ
