Why I'll never get the Mom of the Year Award

Remember THIS?
and
THIS?

Well, I believe today pretty much seals the deal that I'll NEVER receive the Mom of the Year Award. Not that I auditioned for the part or anything. But still.

I had the brilliant idea to make a quick SOLO run to the mailbox while DJ played in the living room with his toys.

I wasn't out the door less than 20 seconds when I heard the dreaded sound that NO parent on this earth wants to hear....CLICK!

Yes people, my son LOCKED himself INSIDE the house. Let me draw the picture for you.

I'm on the outside (in my jammies, headscarf and sweats) no slippers just socks. Yes, I was sexy and quite fabulous today!

He's on the INSIDE of the house and I'm on the OUTSIDE. Danyelle's at school, Darrin's at work and well....do you see where I'm going with this?

OMG! I SCREAMED!!!! UNLOCK THE DOOR DJ, UNLOCK THE DOOR!!! He's screaming on the other side of the door, MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY! Yes it's at that moment, I died.

Well, once I came back to reality, I rushed across the street (looking quite fabulous in my grungewear I might add) Knocked on my neighbors door and their daughter answers the door. After I flustered out the words, DJ, locked inside house, Tears, etc. She runs across the street, jumps over our side fence and runs to the back of the house (damn how did she know to do all this?) Meanwhile, I'm at the front door pleading with DJ to UNLOCK the door, UNLOCK the door! I can see him through the little side window and I'm pointing up SCREAMING--UNLOCK THE door!!!! UNLOCK the door!

My neighbor's daughter is inside my house (yes, the back door was unlocked) See, I'm losing every way you look at this huh? Ok so, by then DJ unlocks the door, I run in to grab him and hold him the tightest I could while my neighbor says...Awwww DJ it's ok, you're safe now.

I'm sure she's probably calling CPS as I type this now.
It's a good thing Darrin doesn't read this blog. *I need a hug*
Question: When was the last time something like this happened to you? or am I once again the only UN-perfect MOM on this earth. *sigh*

when was the last thing like this happened to you? Oh, hon, too often for me to admit! I remember one specific time when my now 13 year old was only about 6 months and just learning to turn over. I had him on the bed next to me while I folded laundry and roll, drop, thud! He fell.. not once but three times before I finally thought I better not lay him down next to me again! Thankfully he grew up and I learned quick! Well, quicker after that anyway!!

I think it happens to everyone at least once. I have yet to have it happen to me but that is only because Joey can`t reach the lock on our front door yet. I have been concerned about him locking me out on the balcony though so always leave the kitchen door open. One of my friends had to call the fire brigade recently because her son locked himself inside the shower/bathroom, and in typical child fasion, he unlocked it just as they were getting ready to break the door down!!!

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh when I read the back door was unlocked. Sounds like something I would have done!

Haven't you read about the nutsy things my boys do on my blog? Mostly resulting in blood loss and mommy panic? You are SO not alone!

I think we have all been there! When David (13) was 2, I locked him in the car with the keys. No push button thingies. 102 degrees in Atlanta! The Sheriff came out and 'jimmied' the lock- Scared the sh*t out of me!

2 years ago, locked Luke in the house! busted the kitchen window to get in. Housing on base only charged me $100 to replace the window. I hate the housing people!

Good thing we have 9 lives, eh?

I know it wasn't supposed to be funny but I just couldn't help but laugh. I pictured you in your "frumpywear" outside of your house. HA! Lord I should be one to talk.

Don't worry you will laugh to a few days from now or maybe you're laughing already.

I won't even tell you what goes on in here. I too will never get that award and neither will daddy. For one, remember he lost"my" son at Legoland!

Oh, we have all had moments like this! Every single time my son has had a major accident, I was sitting right there. I was on the phone when he struck his first and only match, just right across the room, looking at him. Ugh. I felt horrible. It could go on and on. Don't worry, DJ's therapy bills won't be too high. =)

One time my son (2 at the time) locked himself in the bathroom. I had to call my husband at work and he came home and took the door off the hinges to get him out! These are the things that bring character (not to mention gray hairs!) that Mom's of the Year will never have!

Just found your blog. Funny stuff. I'm too afraid CPS would come knocking on my door if I shared why I can't get the Mom of the Year Award!

My kids have never managed to lock doors on me, because I always have keys. My dad must have been locked out a lot by all his brothers as a kid, cause he was the same way, and I learned it from him. I ALWAYS have my keys.

My friends and I all compete, sometimes against ourselves for the Mother of the Year Award. Stupidest mom stunt wins.

My girlfriend took her 2-month-old in with her to buy liquor (I didn't see the problem, really).

And on of my top ones was the year I told my son that Santa died. OK, well I didn't really say it like that, but he asked me if the ORIGINAL St. Nick was still alive and I told him that nobody lives forever. In my defense, Santa falls off a roof and dies in the Santa Clause, which is the movie that started the whole conversation in the 1st place.

Don't worry. We all do it. Some of us more than others. It will make for more interesting stories someday when he days "Mom what was the worst thing I ever did?"

I locked myself, my oldest and a friends son who I was watching out of the house one day. Thankfully we were together but with no phone to call to get help I was very very lucky that most of my neighbors were retired so they allowed me to call for help. Sorry Tanyetta but I had to LOL that the backdoor was actually still unlocked. Close call but unfortunately we all have them. Doesn't make you a worse mother, just makes you a real mother.

Alexis did that same thing to me about 6 months ago! That feeling you get of knowing they are inside and you're trapped outside just chills you to the bone. I won't go out to the mailbox now without me keys. Luckily for us the back door just happened to be unlocked as well as the deck gate. Divine providence in the truest since given neither are ever unlocked! I'm glad it all turned out ok.

Now THAT'S one for the books.

And when was the last time I was a less-than-stellar mom? Try 30 minutes ago, when I heard the *THUD* of my 13-month-old's head hitting the (carpeted) floor. Yes, she was up to her climbing stunts again and, no, I wasn't watching her every move. Sigh. But whaddaya gonna do??

PS
I just remembered that last year, as we were leaving a friend's house, hubby locked Oldest in the car with the car keys inside! We had the same feeling of panic that you did no doubt. As it turned out, the car window was cracked just enough for a (very skinny) friend of ours to stick her arm in and unlock the doors. What an ordeal!! See, you're not alone :)

Hey! Thanks for all of the comments on my blog! I can't you got locked OUTSIDE in your p.j.'s. It is so terrifying to be locked in or out and without your kids. So Scary! I'm glad you neighbor was such a hero. But like my sister said, it happens to all of us! Someday we'll look back and laugh, I guess. (o:

Try this one on for size: I was on our patio out back when the maintenance man came to check the re-seal job they did on our tub. He knocked but since I was out back I didn't hear him and Joey didn't bark. So Mr. Tyler decides he's going to answer the door and tell the guy that I'm outside. Well about 60 seconds goes by before I realize that the door is open and I hear voices. Thankfully our maintenance man is awesome and understands because he has a 4yo. I had a heart attack thinking about who actually could have been at the door!!!

I'm worse than you. I remember when my son was maybe 3, he was down for a nap. I was living in an apartment at the time, so while he was sleeping I ran across the parking lot to throw in a load of laundry at the laudrymat. I was like 25 yards away. Well, I come back, la dee da. 10 minutes later someone knocks on my door. I open it and it is a man I don't know HOLDING MY SON!! What the heck?? My son had woke up, gone out the patio door, crawled over the fence and run off!! I didn't even know he was missing!! I am so bad!!

Oh, dear, not sure I should sign in and use my name, lol. I have 7 kids, and I DO NOT get any awards either. I'll recap for you:
drank bottle of albuterol and bottle of tylenol
superglued eye OPEN
broke collar bone while playing with mom
broken nose
broken ankle
skateboarded off church roof
read my blog about p00p incidents (too many to count)
drank windex (surprisingly not dangerous)
left pepper spray in the van and kid sprayed it, we didn't know WHAT was in his eyes and nearly took him to the ER until we got in the van and smelled it, lol

My kids still love me somehow.

We all have those moments of regret.

Cody fell once and I always regretted that I never took him to the dr. It was a hard fall, but he was okay.

last time?? ummm... yesterday!

i'm doing my personal research to find out what kind of personality flaw's emerge from not telling your 4-year-old that we're taking her dog to the pound and she's gonna hold him and hand him over. to this day she cries over the event; esp. when she see's a show or scene in a movie that reminds her of that moment.

yep, i win... terrible mother goes to me...
