How to clean yourself out of a house cleaner

I've been thinking about getting a house cleaner. I thought about once a month would be just perfect. Well, I sat down to write a list of things I would like tackled and set out to call a few referrals.

I had NO idea you're supposed to 'tidy up' before the housecleaner gets to your home. You have to clear out the clutter, do a little here and there to get things 'tidy' before they arrive.

UMMMM...REALLY??? Ok.

This morning, I got up (earlier than I expected) and decided to de-clutter the horrendous 'catch all' table. Then I decided to wipe down the stove and clean out the microwave. After that, cleared off the counters, swept and mopped the kitchen floor.

In the family room, I put away all the toys and dusted the furniture, wiped down all the glass fixtures and fluffed up the pillows. I vacuumed the floor and turned off the lights.

Moved on to the dining room and proceeded to clear out the dust bunnies, wiped down the furniture, and vacuumed the floor.

Opened the front door and swept the cobwebs away and shook the welcome mat a few times. I sprayed down the front walkway with the hose and wiped down the front door handles.

Came back inside the house to tackle the two loads of laundry that was patiently waiting for me since yesterday. I swept out the laundry room floor, wiped down the washer and dryer, turned on the vents to air out the room.

Straightened up DJ's room and vacuumed his floor. Cleaned out the bathrooms and straightened up our master bedroom.

Went in Danyelle's room to snoop around and closed her bathroom and bedroom doors. I don't use those rooms therefore I don't clean them.

Air out the rooms while I clean and dust off the surfaces. After I finished cleaning those rooms, I went to make lunch for myself and DJ. While sitting here eating lunch, staring at my clean home, I wondered what would the cleaning crew have to clean.

I am WORN OUT. NO wonder the starting rate for a housecleaner is $100.00 for the first 4 hours. Ugh!

Oh well...maybe next month. Looks like I got this month all covered.

Sigh.

Question: Do you have a house cleaner? How many times a month do they usually come in to clean?
Do you usually 'tidy' up before they arrive?

Lol-Tanyetta you're so funny!

I don't have a cleaner (though I reeeeallly want one) but I can imagine if I did, I'd kinda feel like I needed to tidy up...maybe just a little....don't want the cleaner to think I'm messy or anything! lol! I think I'd tidy only for the initial visit though...after which she'd have to actually have a reason to come by and clean...otherwise what's the point??

I know, it's true - the days that my housecleaner comes I spend most of hte morning in a mad panic to get everything put away and semi-clean for them.

I justify having one because I live in a house with four boys and they all are soooo messy and dirty and smelly and I get tired trying to keep them to my standards of clean. So the way I figure I can either be crazy momma and resentful wife or just pay the $150/month and be happy with everyone. I chose #2.

I do not have a cleaner...I did when I worked full time for a year.
I think it's easier to keep up little by little...

I would love to have a house cleaner and NO! I would not tidy up before she came. I am paying her/him to clean my house. What's the point of having a housecleaner if you have to clean up before they come! Ridiculous

Yes.

Fridays.

Yes. If I don't put things where they go Ms. Olga will put them where SHE wants them to go and you'll never, EVER find them.

*sigh*

Girl, you sure did clean yourself out of a cleaner. Sh*t you got me sweating. LOL.

I used to "tidy" up when we first started using a cleaning service, until one day they came and I hadn't done my "tidy" work and they not only tidied the clutter but organized it, sh*t I ain't done that since. LOL

I used to do once a month and then switched to every two weeks. If my new house wasn't so big I'd probably do every week, but I know we couldn't afford that.

I would LOVE to have a cleaner now I work full time as I don't have the energy to clean on week-days and I think that weekends should be kept for spending fun time with Joey rather than cleaning the house. I would probably tidy up his toys etc before a cleaner came over but I definitely wouldn't clean as that would defeat the object of having one!!

Haha! I used to do that too before the cleaner came, but now I just pick up stuff so she's not tripping over all the toys and clothes that the kids and michael leave all over the house.

It took me a while but I don't feel bad about getting my money's worth anymore!

Funny how you intended to get a housecleaner to do your housecleaning and ended up cleaning it all up by yourself!! [LOL]

I don't have one myself...
[Would much rather do it on my own and use the money I would have paid one towards a fun night out.]

We do have a cleaning lady(s) that come 2x/month and yes I straighten up a little...pick up the underwear, put away the sans ropas toys (smile), and generally put away papers etc that I don't want to come up missing or put somewhere I can't find.

I absolutely love it.

I have a house cleaner that comes once a month. The most I do when she's coming is to pack away the toys in Connor's room, but usually our house is tidy enough.

Hilarious! My mother called in an agency twice. She had a bad experience with Merry Maids, they half arse clean.
