Looking for LOWEST fare sites!

Help, I am trying to plan a trip to the East Coast. What sites do you use to find great fare deals?

I'm looking for tickets from San Diego to Newark (SAN to EWR)

Preferably non-stop and redeye. I know I'm being very picky! Hah!

Which airlines should we AVOID?

Any other tips?

I like to use kayak.com to quickly compare fares then I buy directly from the airline's site. When I lived in Cali, I flew Continental a lot but I'm not a fan. However, I guess they're no worse than any other domestic carrier.

Also, if you don't HAVE to fly into EWR, check JFK or LGA. The fare savings may be enough to warrant the extra hassle. I know there's a PATH train out to NJ but I can't remember the details off the top of my head.

No matter where you find the cheap tickets...I don't buy them from there. I find a cheap ticket and write down the itinerary. Then...I call the airline that is on the itinerary and I contact them on the phone and book the ticket directly with them. This way...if something goes wrong I can deal directly with the airline people who are right there and not try and get someone on the phone from an online site. That is damn near IMPOSSIBLE especially if flying over the weekend or after business
