Why did you wait so long to have another baby?
Answer: Because we were babies when we had our first baby. We chose to wait until our lives would permit us to 'afford' more babies. We've found in our late 30's another baby was perfect to add to our little family. With that said, while most people believe in having a bunch of babies right after another, we chose to give all of our focus and attention on our one baby at the time. This time around, we're able to give all of our focus and attention on this baby. I'm sure you were waiting to hear some story about me trying, trying and trying for many years with unsuccessful rounds of trying to get pregnant, but, NOPE that's not our case. We chose to wait until it was right for our family.
Is he the father of both your kids?
Yes.
Our first daughter was born in 1987. We were 17.
Our son was born in 2004. You do the math.
We met in high school and were too you to be doing the humpty dance thus produced a baby as a result. We decided to 'learn' from that decision and didn't add a bunch of other babies to the mix. Waiting worked for us. I never pass up an opportunity to speak to young people about my experience and the value of WAITING before starting a family and getting married.
Just because it worked for us, doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. I believe this is a major reason why our 20 year old doesn't have any kids and isn't married yet.
She said she has things to do in her life before she gets married and has kids. She's a smart cookie. Oh and because she was in the delivery room when her brother was born. Right then and there was when she proclaimed that she was NEVER having a baby. LOL

You know what, I have always wanted to ask but never wanted to offend! I figured those were probably your reasons and it makes sense. One day in the future I will no doubt be picking your brains about the advantages of big age gaps between kids as if I ever have more, it won't be for a while yet!
