As many of you already know, my son LOVES the Farmer's Market. It's the one place where he can roam freely sampling all sorts of different foods and flavors.
I'm not a fan of hummus. Yes, I've tried it and I can honestly say it's not for me. My son on the other hand, LOVES it. He and daddy will scoop up heaps of it onto a pita chip and will make the yummmmmm sound each and every time.
Are you kidding me? Did I miss something? Maybe my taste buds were off the last few times I tried it. I figured what the heck, I'll try it again. I tried it again and once again the hummus violated my taste buds.
Needless to say, I always make sure my son never sees my adverse reactions to foods that I don't like. Especially since he's a picky eater, I wouldn't want to take the chance of depriving him from some delicious decadence that's waiting out there in the world just because his momma cannot control her yuck factor when it comes to certain foods.
Perfect example,
There was a red pepper on the counter which was supposed to be for the stir fry later on tonight. My son bites into the red pepper like it was an apple. YIKES!
I couldn't believe this kid. Here he is eating a red pepper like it's cool.
Instead of freaking out, I sliced it up and put it on the side with some ranch and he was happy as can be. Of course, I'm sitting there faking like I'm eating them with him. One slice for him, None for me. Two slices for him, None for me. Hahaha!
Question: What foods do your kids LOVE and you HATE or don't really care for?

LIMA BEANS AND MILK!!! LOL Not together of course lol
That is something I never thought about... not letting your kids see your adverse reaction to foods. I'm learning SO many useful mommy tips in this "trying-to-get-pregnant" stage of life!
@Adrienne--LOL now that is too funny!
@shoeaddict--yes! even if I don't like something, I am very careful not to pass my finicky eating habits onto my son. if he likes something, then i'm happy, even if the sight of the food makes me dry heave (spelling?) :)
In Japan they have a thing called NATTO which is fermented soy beans. It is horrible stuff and stinks to high heaven but Joey LOVES it. He is pretty good with his food in general actually and eats all sorts of things that I don`t but that is the main one I can think of.
I don't have kids yet, but I will say that, like you, I'm not a fan of hummus. A co-worker of mine had me try it once. It was the only time I will ever eat it.
Connor loves bananas and usually eats 2 a day. I HATE bananas, but like you I don't let him in on my dislikes when it comes to healthy food. Another thing he's hooked on is vegetarian chicken nuggets from Whole Foods. I picked them up by mistake one day and he loves it. I can't get used to eating vegetarian chicken nuggets, though.
I totally agree with you about not letting DJ see your adverse reaction to certain foods. I'm the same way. I think it teaches them respect and appreciate for food which I want him to have when we eat at friends' homes who might eat differently than us. Anyway I rambled lol!
My son eat scallops and oysters. Just the thought of them makes me want to puke. YIKES!
lol, I love hummus! Olyvia loves red peppers as well. So, I buy them, cut them into strips and hand them to her. She'll eat them without any dipping. Although, if I eat them I like to have dipping. lol Olyvia doens't like mashed potatoes. They're fine cubed, but not mashed.
Have a great day!
Hmmm...
Lemme see...there's eggs, shrimp, liver, brocolli, spinach, tomatoes, lobster, crab, string beans, lima beans, eggplant, apples, bananas, kiwi, onions, milk, oatmeal, peppers [red or green], watermelon, icecream and a WHOLE LOTTA OTHER STUFF TOO!!
I give new meaning to the words PICKY EATER [Yes...I know] LOL
my mom never cooked anything she didn't like to eat. which is how i know what she doesn't like b/c i didn't have it for a long time-- brussel sprouts. still never had that. don't have any kids. i was always a good eater, tho, so here's to having a little good eater!! i read a ny times article which showed picky eating is hereditary... IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!! lol. but they grow out of it. i love that he was eating the pepper like an apple. too cute. i like garlic hummus, but plain hummus. ew.
My kids used to love hummus, my sis always thought it was funny that kids liked that stuff, she thinks we're so granola!
I love hummus. I first tried it during a trip to Dubai. I don't have kids, but there aren't too many foods I don't like. I can only think of two things; liver and brocolli with cheese. Ugh! Yuck!
I remember a time when I was a little girl: 7 or 8, when my dad made me sit to the kitchen table and finish my plate of brocolli and cheese. It took hours..I was dry heavin and everything.
Cooked carrots. Raw, they're great, but cooked...not so much. I usually give myself raw ones or I serve myself cooked and then give them to the baby or eventually put them back in the pot untouched.
my kids love baked beans, Kraft mac'n cheese, and candied sweet potatoes. Definitely not things on the top of my list! I think that is so great that DJ would eat a red pepper! Interesting little kid you are DJ!
I HATE HUMMUS!!!! I don't know what all the hubub is about. I know it's healthy...I get it but it's nasty, man.
im a country boy, i eat and can tolerate anything. from bush babby (what ever tha was) crocodile, chimpanzie, snake.....nice spot u have here hon
I honestly never thought about not letting the kids see my reaction to things I don't like and that a whole lot of things. Maybe that is why he won't eat banana. See why I visit your blog, I learn something everytime.
Well my daughter loves her veggies, asparagus she will eat with no trouble. I don't like the stuff yet I will eat brussel sprouts. :-) Everyone says that tastes nasty but I personally think it is tasteless and takes on what ever you flavor it with.
Christopher is picky like his mama and maybe that is because I do what you won't do and react when I dislike something.
Anyway, I love hummus. What flavor of hummus did you try by the way? Yes I am trying to convert you...bwah hahahaha
Julia's favorite "food court" eatery is Panda Express. I ate a lot of it during the 2006 summer months and obviously passed on a hankering for it to her. Funny, I can't eat it now. No thanks, I'll pass!
Hey, Adrienne: Lima beans and milk -- together! -- was a favorite dish in my family. It *does* sound weird, but it's really good. You add butter, salt and pepper to the cooked (fresh, homegrown) limas, then heat up some milk and pour it on. When our garden was producing a lot of limas, we'd have it for dinner several nights a week.
Sorry to gross you out, but there it is. Everyone I've ever told about this dish has been horrified. Maybe it's a South Jersey (Cumberland County) thing. Last week I visited family and had lima beans and milk for supper one night.

Donna Freedman
