I had the pleasure of having my own pearls of wisdom sharing woman part of my life growing up as a young mother back in New Jersey.
She recently passed away and it still feels unreal. I can remember when I told her I was having a baby. She didn't trip at all.
She just sat and smiled and then asked what Darrin and I were planning to do to raise up that baby?
Wow, I thought for sure she was going to shake her finger at shame towards me but, it was the total opposite.
With Mrs. Sawyer, she was always that WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) type of person. She never sugar coated when she needed you get the message the FIRST time.
In my opinion, she was the "Mother of the Village" that was supposed to live forever.
Her family just recently finished the design for her grave marker and it brought tears to my eyes once again.
I couldn't help but to smile and to think she's no longer in pain and she resting waiting to meet Jesus.
The marker is absolutely beautiful and has a vase holder in the middle for fresh cut flowers. Mrs. Sawyer was a "Mom of the Village" that touched so many hearts.
I will never forget the love, compassion and patience she showed me. I had the honor of speaking at her funeral in April and I fought back the tears because I wanted to make sure not to forget anything I wanted she share about Mrs. Sawyer.
The funniest story was when I was finally moved into my first apartment and she walked all the way to my place, rang the bell and told me to come downstairs because it was time to go and register to vote!
Say What?
Vote? Vote for what? Vote for what candidate?
I had NO idea about the first thing about voting. I was around 19 or 20. I can't remember my exact age, just thought I was too young to vote. NOT according to her. This was the perfect age.
Needless to say, off I went with her to the voting polls and on the way there, she spoke very passionately on WHY we should vote and if we didn't vote, we better not complain one bit when we get some bum into office. Well, alright now! LOL
I have so many fond memories of Mrs. Sawyer and will be sharing more as the lump removes from my throat as it still feels unreal to believe she's gone.
Especially as a young mom, she told me never let that be the reason to hold me back.
She had more confidence in me than I had in myself at most times during my younger days!
It truly takes a Village! Thank you Mrs. Sawyer for always sharing your life and experiences with the younger generation.
You have instilled some great character building traits in a lot of people that you have touched!
You will truly be missed and you will live in my heart forever!
Thank You for sharing your life and wisdom with so many of us.
I Love and Miss You Dearly.
