Kids Make it Better-Review and Giveaway

I received a copy of the book/journal by Suzy Becker called Kids Make It Better (published by Workman). Suzy is author, artist, former White House Fellow and #1 New York Times bestseller author of All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat and more titles.

Kids Make It Better is a very cute and inspiring interactive workbook in which Suzy challenges kids to think about some of the world's biggest problems- from pollution and the economy to how to improve the schools or mend a broken heart - and then illustrated their innovative answers.

Each "problem" begins with a spread that asks a question and gives one or more solutions from children—illustrated in whimsical full-color drawings. Then the reader is presented with two pages of fill-ins, prompts, and a space to draw his or her own ideas.

While going through the book I found myself smiling at the humor of children.  They are so pure and will always tell you the first thing that comes to their minds.

For fun I asked my son (age 5) what should we do when our kids won't eat their vegetables and he said "Just tell them it's OK and they can still have Ice Cream for dessert!"

Too Funny!

Kids say the funniest things!

Here are a few excerpts from the book:
How do you fix a bad economy? "The government should have a bake sale," says Jennifer, age 9.

What would you do to improve schools? "Put chocolate milk in the water fountain."—Robert, age 8.

What can we do to take better care of our water? "Have scientists make fish that love to eat tons of pollution."—Jackie, age 9.

And finally, a question on the nature of helping itself: The biggest challenge of all might be getting people up off their couches to do something. Any ideas? "Put spikes on the couches"—Micah, age 10.
This journal is a great summer vacation project-- something that kids and families can do together.

“It is never too early to let children know that they can make a difference. That’s the wonderful message of this necessary—
and adorable—book.” — Carol Bellamy, former executive director of UNICEF and former director of the Peace Corps

Well, I am not sure this is the best solution for them but, it sure is the best one for my peace of mind!  Haha!

Problem: preschooler won't sleep despite the bath book bed formula

solution: sometimes kids need a little extra comfort, this happened to me from time to time so my solution was warmth - after the bath wrap him in a warm towel from the dryer, take him to his bed, where there are pj's, his little blankie and his favourite animal of the week also warmed from the dryer - works like a charm...we snuggle up and read. oh and I know this is long winded - when all else fails - I put on HGTV - I love it - guess he finds it either soothing or boring - we snuggle up in the big chair in the living room and he falls asleep within minutes! I just let him sleep right there - put a big pillow under the chair just in case - but its a huge chair. :)
