I'm a firm believer in saying Thank you.
If my kids receive a gift, it is a given that they will send the person a thank you card.
I've done this with my daughter and now that my son is on the receiving end of gifts, I'm sure to do the same.
It doesn't cost a lot of money to send a card and it doesn't take a great deal of time to do it.
The person took the time to give my child a present, the least I can do is send them a card to say thank you. Saying Thank you is another way of teaching our kids to become great citizens of the world.
Here's a few tips:
Take a photo of your child with the present he/she received as a gift
Enclose it in a card (Target has an excellent selection of cards in the See.Spot.Save section)
If your child is too young to write, help them write their names and write a short message of thanks.
A simple thank you goes a long way

Back East "Thank You" cards are big, and expected. However, I'm finding that the tradition seems to be waning. I believe in formal "Thank yous" especially after a birthday party.
I really like your hands on style of teaching with your kids. Good stuff!
OMG I feel the same way! We are getting away frome teaching our children to be gracious. Its like these lil rugrats expect the gifts and very few thank you's. Way 2 go T.
THANK YOU!
People are always suprised and pleased when I send thank you cards, it seems like a dying custom. People seem to email everything these days.
I remember receiving long letters from friends and family members, I know my children won't have that experience unless I keep it up, sad.
It is not a common thing in my culture but one that I have adopted wholeheartedly...I have always made sure my daughter does so and I do it too (even at my previous job...always surprised my coworkers). I love the picture idea...might borrow it for her next thank you card.

Great idea especially since you usually take pictures when the kids are opening their gifts.
I'm passing this idea on to my sister /friend. Jayden has a birthday approaching.
This is definitly a dying custom and that's unfortunate. I'm with you, if whoever took the time to get the gift, a short thank you is more than well deserved.
I grab construction paper and have my kids make thank you cards. The really young one draw a picture and I "translate" their written thank you.
Inspired from Mom's Turn? Hehe. It feels good when you give someone something and they appreciate it and say thank you. I feel like I've been slapped in the face when someone isn't appreciative.
I love how you let DJ add his own little touches to the thank you cards, I'm sure all of his gift-givers love them!
